Important Update Regarding the Retirement Celebration for Founding Executive Director Esmeralda Simmons, Esq.
Greetings Family and Friends,
I hope you are all well. I wanted to provide several updates regarding the retirement celebration for CLSJ Founding Executive Director Esmeralda Simmons, Esq. The good news is, many of you answered the call to celebrate our founder and purchased tickets to celebrate with us! We very much value your desire to help us commemorate this momentous occasion.
However, this good news is tempered by some serious recent public health developments.
As you are aware, there has been a significant uptick in reports of the spread of corona virus throughout the City and State of New York. Several schools, including Fordham, Columbia and Hofstra, among others, shut down for the next few weeks. Several high profile New Yorkers have indicated that they are now in quarantine because of the virus spread and major corporations are cancelling not just international travel, but all domestic travel as well. This afternoon, Governor Cuomo deployed the National Guard to a one-mile containment zone in New Rochelle.
Unfortunately, it is our elderly and those with compromised immune systems who are most at risk of the greatest harm from this virus. Our target population for this event includes many elderly persons, some of whom have already expressed concerns about attending a large public gathering under these circumstances.
As a result of these and other virus related concerns, we have decided to postpone this celebration until the evening of Tuesday June 30, 2020.
We do not want to give into fear, however, we also take the health of our community members and our revered elders very seriously. While we hope you will still join us, we recognize that this new date may not work for everyone who has already purchased a ticket. Therefore, anyone who is unable to join us on this new date may receive a refund for your ticket. Conversely, anyone who was not yet able to purchase a ticket, will now have additional time to do so (ticket purchases can be made here until Tuesday, June 9, 2020).
We cannot thank you enough for all of your support – Attorney Simmons is thrilled to know about large network of family and friends who want to be in the room to celebrate her dynamic legacy. We look forward to celebrating with those of you who are able to join us on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
